The Mod-est Lads were the hottest rock and roll sensations in the dreary British industrial city of Bladderpool in 1966. Then suddenly, for reasons that are shrouded in mystery and have never been explained to anyone's satisfaction, they disappeared without a trace just as they seemed destined for international superstardom. Only a few fragmentary biographical details exist, and even those are just speculation, bewildering rumors, and often wildly contradictory anecdotes that are impossible to verify.
It's widely believed that the names of the band members were Peter, Reggie, Stu, and Simon, but even that is a matter of considerable, and often bitter debate among the dedicated few who insist the truth is somehow relevant. It's generally accepted that The Mod-est Lads' recordings were engineered by a man named Roger "Clecky" Davis, a self-taught genius who would undoubtedly be remembered today as one of the most innovative and visionary producers of his time (as is evident by his unconventional and often daring use of bird calls, glockenspiels, contrabassoons, and the joephonium of "poor man's theremin") had he not lost his hearing in a tragic accident caused by defective fireworks made by his half-brother, Sketchy. Some claim this accident was also responsible for the great Bladderpool Fire of 1968, which destroyed the city and all the records that might have provided information about The Mod-est Lads.
